What a huddle covers
A 10-15 minute visual session for carers on what normal, healthy nails and feet look like compared with changes that deserve a closer look.

This is the full detail behind the highlights on our homepage - how Footwise approaches resident safety, clinical communication, infection prevention and reliable service delivery, question by question.

Alongside resident clinics, we offer short staff education huddles - a practical way to help your team spot foot problems sooner and escalate them with confidence. It is part of how we support the wider care team, not just individual appointments. These huddles are free of charge - part of Footwise's holistic approach to care.
A 10-15 minute visual session for carers on what normal, healthy nails and feet look like compared with changes that deserve a closer look.
Clear guidance on when to involve the nurse on duty or call Footwise - for example ingrown nails, very thick nails, pressure areas, sores, or changes that may affect gait or falls risk.
These huddles are mentoring and support for your carers rather than a certified training programme. They demonstrate proactive quality improvement and help staff catch issues sooner.

Due diligence
Use the categories below to review the areas most relevant to your home.
We aim to provide continuity, so the same practitioner will attend each visit. Any substitute will be identified and agreed with the home well in advance and will undergo the home's Garda vetting process.
All our practitioners are fully qualified, have varying levels of experience and specialise in providing foot care for older people. We provide full evidence of training before services begin.
We provide routine foot-care treatments. We do not undertake surgery or procedures outside our training or the scope agreed with the home. We do not administer anaesthesia or prescribe prescription-only medicines, including antibiotics. We work as part of the wider healthcare team, including the GP and diabetes team where relevant.
All practitioners are already Garda vetted. Before services begin, we will also complete the home's Garda vetting process, undertake any safeguarding training the home requires, and provide evidence of professional indemnity, malpractice and public liability cover for the agreed work.
Before each treatment, we review the relevant care plan and history in the home's record system and liaise with the resident's care team. We raise findings outside routine foot care with the nurse in charge.
We identify these risks before treatment and adapt our approach accordingly. We remain within the agreed scope and refer concerns requiring clinical assessment through the nursing team.
We stop routine treatment, inform the nurse in charge immediately and document our specific findings. The nursing team then activates the home's GP or specialist referral pathway. We can provide a referral note for the GP if preferred.
We stop treatment, call the nurse in charge immediately and assist within our competence. We document the event and cooperate with the home's incident process.
We stop when a finding or procedure is outside our competence or treatment could put the resident at risk. We explain the concern to the nurse in charge and document the recommended referral.
We follow the home's infection control policy, including hand hygiene, appropriate protective equipment, cleaning the treatment area and separating clean from used equipment.
We use medical-grade reusable instruments sterilised using an autoclave. Instruments remain sealed in sterile pouches until immediately before use.
Our service agreement specifies the supplies and disposal arrangements. We contain and handle sharps, used instruments and clinical waste through the agreed safe process.
We complete the home's induction and follow its current infection control instructions. We adapt or postpone visits when advised by the home's infection control lead. Practitioners who are unwell do not visit the home.
We work within the home's internal consent processes. Before treatment, we explain what is proposed, confirm that the resident is willing to proceed and alert the nursing team to any concern.
We respect the resident's decision and inform the nurse in charge. If the resident wishes, we can offer treatment later that day or on another visit. The resident's agreement remains paramount.
We require appropriate access to the home's record system to review the resident's current care plan and relevant history before treatment. We agree access arrangements with the home in advance.
We make a same-day entry in the home's record system covering our assessment, treatment, findings and follow-up advice. We also hand over anything requiring prompt action directly to the nurse in charge.
We speak to the nurse in charge, record the finding and state our recommended action. The home's clinical team manages care-plan implementation, updates and referrals.
We access only information needed for care and follow the home's secure access and record-sharing procedures. We take or store photographs only for an agreed clinical purpose and through an approved process.
We agree the visit list and timing with the home. We require a suitable treatment space with good lighting and hand-hygiene access; any assistance needed from staff is agreed beforehand.
Routine foot care every two to three months is our usual starting point. We recommend a different interval only where a resident's needs justify it and discuss this with the nursing team.
We charge a set fee for each visit and invoice the home centrally each month. Invoices list each resident by initials and room number to limit the personal information shared. Cancellation and additional-treatment terms are to be confirmed.
We report concerns promptly through the home's procedures, provide relevant records and cooperate with its review. We agree corrective actions and confirm when they are complete.
We give the home as much notice as possible and arrange a rescheduled visit as soon as possible.
We provide evidence of qualifications, relevant policies, insurance and training, and can provide references. We can also agree periodic reviews of incidents, referrals, resident feedback and record completion.
Arrange a conversation about resident needs, visit schedules, governance requirements and next steps.
